Get To 'Yes' by Asking 'Why?'

Updated: Oct 8, 2020

You’ve almost made it. You’ve taken a difficult decision, gathered advice, and identified some great ways forward. So, what can you do to ensure those involved align behind the final call?

Ask them for their Why.

Anytime you integrate and narrow down ideas with other people, include a step where each person shares their favorite choice and explains why that choice is their favorite. You’ll generate curiosity and harmony rather than frustration. Everyone shares their point of view, not just the dominant few. Plus, as you listen to each other’s why’s, you will find those insights informing your own point of view. Often at the end of the exercise, the group has naturally unified on a single choice.
